This Sonnax Smart-Tech® input housing kit (housing only, no input shaft) addresses the OE 3-4 clutch burnup problem by providing a taller, higher-capacity 3-4 clutch pack area, a much stronger anchored backing plate, and a reinforced, treated housing. Designed to stop backing plate flex and destructive heat, it’s ideal for high horsepower, high pressure builds where you’re reusing or supplying your own input shaft. Includes Alto’s top-of-the-line High Performance G3 3-4 Powerpack clutches, specifically engineered for the Smart-Tech drum for maximum durability and heat resistance compared to the stock design.

Why You Need This Kit
The OE GM 4L60-E/4L65-E/4L70-E input housing is a major cause of 3-4 clutch burnup in performance applications. The weak OE backing plate flexes during apply, creating uneven heat in the limited 3-4 clutch space and leading to premature failure.
The Sonnax Smart-Tech® input housing fixes this by:
- Making room for a taller, higher-capacity 3-4 clutch pack
- Using a strong, anchored backing plate to keep clutches parallel
- Greatly increasing clutch capacity and protecting against destructive heat
This version is the housing-only kit (no input shaft included) and is ideal when reusing or sourcing your own shaft. A version with a pre-installed heavy-duty input shaft is also available.
